Obituary For Charlene Perkins

Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 Thursday at South Hill Cemetery for Charlene Perkins, 97, of Hattiesburg, who died September 5, 2025, at Wyndham House.

Charlene Perkins was a woman whose warmth and dedication touched the lives of many. She devoted her career to the Hattiesburg Public Schools, where she became a beloved and integral part of the Central Office team. Known to her colleagues as "Miss Charlene," she was the heart of the office. Her commitment to her work made her a trusted and cherished figure at HPS, and her impact was felt by all who had the privilege to work alongside her. After many years of faithful service, Charlene retired, leaving behind a legacy of devotion and service.

Outside of her professional life, Charlene’s faith was her guiding light. A devoted member of Priest Creek Missionary Baptist Church, she found joy and solace in singing in the choir, lifting her voice in hymns, and sharing in the fellowship of her church family. Even in her later years, when illness prevented her from attending services, Charlene remained steadfast in her devotion, faithfully reading her Bible and holding fast to her love for God, her family and her friends.

Charlene was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Kathline Perkins, her mother and stepfather, Mabel and Rank McCullum, her father, Ras Perkins, her sister Inez Perkins, and her brother Milton Harris. Charlene leaves many dear friends who will miss her sweet countenance and beautiful smile.
