Obituary For Dr. Larry Robinson
Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 Friday at McLain Community Cemetery for Dr. Larry Robinson, 83, of McLain, who died February 7, 2022, at Asbury House in Hattiesburg. The author was born to Mr. and Mrs. Homer Robinson May 15, 1938 in Sunflower, MS. His parents later migrated to Greenwood, MS where he completed his early education at Broad Street High School. In 1959 he entered Jackson State College. There, he met his wife Matilda Johnson and God blessed them with three daughters, Sheilah, Monica, and Vivian. After earning his B.S. degree, he gained his teacher/coach responsibility at Southern Normal High School. While serving there he became a successful teacher/coach and a noted basketball official. In 1967 he entered Indiana University to begin his study toward a master's degree and chose as his research project basketball officiating. He believed then and now that basketball officials could be better trained. His strong belief in basketball officials' training method led to a Master's degree research project at Indiana University and later doctoral study at The University of Alabama and finally, a book and guide that he believes to be useful in training basketball officials. The author completed his doctoral study and degree in 1995. He was employed at Stillman College where he had been involved in teaching, coaching and officiating for 20 years.
