Obituary For Janice Lynette Heidelburg Stevens

Services are scheduled for 12:00 noon, Wednesday at Church of the Way for Mrs. Janice Stevens, 68, of Lumberton, who died October 26, 2020 at Forrest General Hospital.

Brother Curtis Merritt will officiate.

Interment will be in Love Quarters Cemetery.

On August 4 1952 the world was blessed with an amazing soul named Janice Lynnette Heidelburg. Janice was the 4th of 8 children born to Nora Lee and Risker Heidelburg. Janice gave her life to Christ at an early age as a member of Sweet Beulah Baptist Church and lived faithfully to her devotion throughout her life. Janice grew up in Lumberton, Mississippi with her parents and siblings. She attended John Jefferson High School graduating Class of 1970. While attending high school Janice enjoyed participating in the Glee Club. During her senior year Janice classmates voted her to be Homecoming queen making her the last queen before segregation took effect. After graduating high school Janice began employment at Movie Star Clothing where she worked for several years. Janice decided to change career paths and began employment at Keesler Air Force Base on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She later transferred to the Veteran Administration in San Francisco California. Janice retired from the Veteran Administration after 27 years of service. On September 9, 1976 she became Janice Stevens and married the love of her life, Joseph Stevens Sr. and through this union they shared 4 children. Janice and Joseph shared 44 years of holy matrimony. Janice amazing spirit and love for her family always create a wonderful abundance of love throughout the entire family. Janice's favorite pastime was being creative in the kitchen. She had the ability to taste food and replicate anything along with adding her special touch to it, making it her personal unique recipe. Janice was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Willie Heidelburg. On October 26, 2020 Janice went to be with the Lord leaving to mourn her memory her husband Joseph Ronald Stevens Sr.; her children Troy (Juanita) Heidelburg, Joseph Jr. (LaShanda) Stevens, Jeannette (Thomas) Simmons, and Sean Stevens; her siblings Russell (Hazel) Heidelburg, Beverly (Ernest) Stevens, Alberta (Carl) Pride, Rethella Bradford, Tina and Betty Speights. She also leaves to cherish her memory 11 grandchildren, and a host of in- laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.
