Obituary For Zilphia Tillman Crockrum

Services are scheduled for 11:00 Friday at Sweet Beulah Baptist Church for Zilphia Crockrum, 75, of Wiggins, who died September 8, 2025, at her residence.

Interment will be in the Fairley Family Cemetery.

Zilphia was born April 24, 1950, to the late James Tillman, Sr. and Katie Lee Fairley-Tillman, the first of 7 children. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Janice B. Lawrence and Jamesenna Tillman; brother, James Tillman, Jr. and niece, Modisty Kennedy.

Zilphia joined Sweet Pilgrim Baptist Church, Benndale, MS at an early age, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Girls Auxiliary. When she moved to Gumbranch, she joined New Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of her Pastor, the late Rev. R. D. Jackson. In the later years she moved her membership to the family church, Amanda Chapel Baptist Church and continued to render service there wherever needed.

Ms Crockrum attended and graduated from Locker Consolidated High School, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College nd the University of Southern Mississippi.

Zilphia joined the Stone County NAACP and worked tirelessly in many capacities with her main focus on membership. Every member knew “what time it was” when they saw her phone number come up on their screen. If no one answered her call she went to their homes, job, grocery store or wherever to locate them to collect and update memberships. She was always busy doing something and going places.

Her memory will always be cherished by her “Bae”, Woodrow Berry; daughters, LaShawn (Daniel) Harris and Wyniki “Fufu” Breland (Robin); bonus daughter, Stephanie Leep; grandchildren, Jemelia Evans, Tyra Harris and Rhea Morrison; great grandchildren, Emmory and Ensley; sister, Patricia (Michael) Gilner; brothers, Lonnie (Nancy) Tillman, Harold (Nicole) Tillman and Darryl (Yette) Tillman; three stepsisters, Wanda Greem, Cathy Petty and Tondry Marshall; goddaughters, Mitzi Chambers and Modesty Fairley; stepsons, Raashan Evans, Orlando Evans and Jonathan Hamilton.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 until service time.

    To the family of Zip, you have our sincere sympathy. We truly enjoyed been a friend of Zip, there is none other like Zip. We worked together as NAACP secretaries.
